Resilient Home Design: Tailored to Your Vision

Step 1: Let’s start the conversation

To kick things off, fill out the form at the bottom of this page with your project details.

If it seems like we’re aligned, I'll connect to organize a time to chat and get to know each other. This is a great chance for me to really listen to what you want and need. If we find a good rapport and decide to work together, I’ll send you a comprehensive fee proposal covering costs, timelines, and any other key details.

Once you give that the thumbs up, we’ll move on to Step 2!

Step 2: Now comes the exciting part — collaborating on your dream home!

We’ll start by collecting all the important details about the building site and diving deeper into your wants and needs, discussing choices for the layout and materials of your future space. It’s crucial for me to understand how you intend to use each area of your home so I can design the most efficient layout for your lifestyle.

Next, I’ll develop the floor plans and elevations, refining them based on your feedback to ensure the final result aligns with your vision.

Step 3: Ensuring Compliance and Safety

Our team is dedicated to navigating the unique requirements associated with Earth Block construction. To ensure your home complies with all applicable building codes and standards, I work closely with a licensed engineer and other specialists, such as an energy rater, as needed. By leveraging the expertise of these professionals, we can create a home that adheres to safety regulations and sustainability practices.

This attention to detail provides you with peace of mind throughout the building process and beyond.

Step 4: Concluding the Design & Construction Drawings

Once the design is finalized, I’ll prepare the necessary construction details and documentation for the building process. The finalized drawings will be sent to you as a digital file and will comprise:

  • Cover Sheet with 3D views
  • Site Plan
  • Floor Plans
  • Roof Plan
  • Exterior Elevations
  • Cross Sections and Details
  • Door and Window Schedules
  • Foundation Plan
  • Any other relevant details as needed

At this point, your builder will take charge of managing the construction process, including submitting documents for permitting. I will also be available to answer any questions, support the builder, and make revisions if necessary.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Work with me FAQ's

How much do your design services cost?

The cost of custom home design varies depending on the size and complexity of the project. For a full custom home design of a compact and efficient living space, fees may start at around $7,500, which includes everything from initial concept development to detailed construction documentation. Smaller scope projects or specific design phases may cost less, while larger or more intricate projects can take more time and investment. Each project is unique, so I work closely with clients to create a design package that fits their specific needs.

Are you a licensed architect?

I hold a Master of Architecture from an accredited university and am an AIA associate, with my licensure process currently on hold. My focus has been on working independently and learning directly from experienced builders who specialize in earth block construction. This hands-on approach has allowed me to develop deep expertise in this unique building method. While I may pursue licensure in the future, my current priority is delivering custom designs that meet my clients' needs.

Do you also design wood frame homes?

Absolutely! If earth block isn't quite what you're looking for, I also design conventional wood frame homes. I still focus on using earth-friendly materials and energy-efficient design practices, so you can have a beautiful, sustainable home that fits your needs. Whether you're leaning toward earth block or wood frame, I'm here to help bring your vision to life!

What about other natural building methods?

I’m open to working with a variety of natural building methods. These include, but are not limited to, hempcrete, cob, strawbale, adobe, rammed earth, and light straw clay. If you have another natural material in mind or are curious about alternative methods, feel free to reach out. I’d love to explore how we can incorporate these eco-friendly materials into your project.

Where do you typically work?

Currently, I primarily focus on projects in North Texas and surrounding areas, but I’m able to work anywhere in the U.S. as long as we collaborate with a locally licensed engineer. I’ve successfully worked on projects in states like Colorado, Utah, and Montana, and I’ve also had the opportunity to work internationally, including a project in Haiti. Let’s chat about your location, and we’ll make sure to cover the necessary requirements for your area!
